Why We’re Honoring Canine Impact Leaders
The Canine Impact Awards were created to recognize the individuals and organizations who are raising the standard of canine care, strengthening communities, and making a lasting difference in the lives of dogs and the people who love them.
Here’s what you should know:
You can nominate an individual or organization by filling out the form.
Make as many nominations as you’d like, in as many categories as you choose—whether that’s one, several, or all of them.
You may nominate more than one person for the same award.
If the same person receives multiple nominations, it does not increase their chances of winning. One nomination is all they need to be considered.
Help us shine a light on those who are truly making an impact.
Canine Impact Awards
Anyone may submit a nomination for the Canine Impact Awards. Every nomination is carefully reviewed by the Canine Impact Awards Selection Committee, which uses a consistent, values-based rubric to evaluate nominees. Finalists and winners for each award category are selected by the committee based on the criteria below.
In addition to committee-selected awards, the public will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award, which honors a nominee whose impact resonates broadly within the community. More information on public voting will be announced soon.

Official Rules & Eligibility
Eligibility
Nominees must be individuals, organizations, or businesses working within the canine community (including rescue, veterinary, training, grooming, breeding, education, or advocacy).
Nominees may be based anywhere in the U.S., but must demonstrate a direct or measurable impact on dogs or communities within the United States. Worried about this, as it includes numerous notable people within the industry that we do not have access to. While I prefer not to suggest, McHenry County, we should decide how to phrase this.
Previous winners are eligible for nomination in future years, but not for the same category two years in a row.
Committee members are eligible for nomination only if they recuse themselves from all related discussions and votes.
Nominations
Each nomination must include:
Nominee name and contact information
Nominator name and contact information
Selected award category
A brief description of the nominee’s contributions and impact
Optional supporting materials (photos, videos, testimonials, links, or documentation can be emailed to katedalman@herzogsheroes.org)
Selection Integrity
All decisions by the Selection Committee are final.
The committee reserves the right to move nominations into a more appropriate category if needed.
In the event of a tie, co-recipients may be named.
Committee members with conflicts of interest must recuse themselves from reviewing or voting in affected categories.
Conflicts include: direct employment, personal relationships, mentorship, or financial partnerships with a nominee.
Award Recognition
Each winner will receive:
A personalized Canine Impact Award plaque. Discuss what other award or recognition can be given for those "distinguished" categories.
Recognition in event programs, press releases, and CES publications
Invitation to present or participate in a panel at the 2027 Canine Expo & Symposium
